More details

  • The Regional Health Promotion Conference 2025, focused on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), will take place from 18-19 March 2025 at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi. This event will gather over 300 participants, including policymakers, health workers, donors, and government officials. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3, the conference aims to address systemic health inequities and promote inclusive and sustainable health systems. Attendees will examine the effects of climate change on sexual and reproductive health rights, particularly for marginalised communities such as women, children, persons with disabilities and indigenous groups.

  • The conference will feature keynote addresses, dynamic panel discussions, master classes, and co-design labs, emphasising innovative, intersectional approaches to UHC. High-level speakers and experts will lead collaborative sessions to break down barriers and ensure that healthcare services are accessible, affordable, and of high quality for all. The event will have an inclusive setup with oral and sign language interpretation, aiming to advance health equity with a focus on the most vulnerable groups.

  • The Africa Health Business (AHB) Symposium, scheduled for 16-17 July 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria, will bring together over 200 health sector leaders from more than 30 African countries to discuss innovative strategies for accelerating UHC in Africa. Key topics will include government healthcare funding, private sector engagement, regulatory harmonisation, and leveraging digital health solutions to enhance service coverage, diagnostics, and quality care.

  • Key speakers will include Dr. Amit N. Thakker (Africa Health Business), Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba (Africa CDC Eastern Africa RCC), and H.E. Dr. Jean Kaseya (Africa CDC). The symposium will also address the impacts of climate change on health and challenges such as antimicrobial resistance and epidemics, with the aim of fostering valuable partnerships and generating new leads within the health sector.

  • The World Health Expo (WHX) will host major healthcare exhibitions in Africa in 2025. WHX Lagos, Nigeria, from 2-4 June, is expected to attract over 7,000 professionals. WHX Cape Town, South Africa, from 2-4 September, will gather over 8,000 attendees. Both events will showcase innovations in medical devices, IT systems, diagnostics and more, with a focus on healthcare trade and sustainability. Additionally, WHX Nairobi, Kenya, from 6-8 October, will bring together over 8,000 healthcare leaders, providing a unique platform for networking, learning, and showcasing innovations in East Africa's thriving healthcare sector.

Our take

  • The upcoming healthcare conferences are vital for advancing climate-resilient health systems in Africa. As climate change increasingly affects public health, these events will showcase solutions that integrate sustainability into healthcare infrastructure, ensuring systems are better equipped to address climate-related challenges.

  • Attending these conferences presents an opportunity to explore technologies and strategies for adapting healthcare to extreme weather events, disease outbreaks, and environmental disruptions. They can foster collaborations with innovators who are leading the way in creating sustainable, climate-resilient healthcare solutions across the continent.

  • By participating, African health leaders can strengthen partnerships, access funding opportunities, and share best practices on climate-smart healthcare systems. The emphasis on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) ensures that these events will support efforts to make healthcare more accessible, equitable, and resilient against the impacts of climate change, benefiting the most vulnerable populations.
