Climate-health financing initiatives for African healthcare businesses are growing. Accessing the funds, however, require costly assessments, where businesses prove how climate change threatens their services and why the proposed response will work. A new Amref partnership aims to support this preparation and mobilise project funding.

  • In the past two years, at least 12 funding schemes have supported climate-health projects in Africa. Of these, only four offered project assessment support. This despite the fact that climate change presents one of Africa’s biggest future health challenges.

  • Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi needed $60,000 to study a planned energy upgrade in 2025, and the WHO requested $160,000 to prepare a climate-health programme across four countries. The Amref programme closes this gap.
