This July, three major events are shaping global health dialogues with a strong presence from Africa. The second Global Digital Health Convening will be held virtually. It builds on renewed WHO commitments to extend digital health strategies, strengthen governance and support equitable, country-led digital transformation in vulnerable health systems.

  • Later in the month, Algeria will host the International Conference on Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (ICOPB-25), bringing together researchers and innovators to explore new strategies in health research and development and biotechnology.

  • Looking ahead, the World Health Expo will return to Nairobi this October. Backed by Kenya’s Ministry of Health, the event will spotlight healthcare innovations, sustainability, and partnerships to strengthen East Africa’s position as a regional medical hub.

  • The second Global Convening of the Global Initiative on Digital Health will take place virtually from 14 to 18 July 2025. It comes at a time when fragile digital health systems face mounting challenges due to shifts in global funding and technical support. It follows the WHO's recent endorsement of a two-year extension to the Global Strategy on Digital Health and discussions regarding a long-term renewal.

  • The convening will focus on strengthening digital governance, equitable access to technologies, and workforce capacity, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Delegates will explore how to build sustainable, country-led digital health systems through collective action, partnerships, and innovation. With sessions ranging from policy discussions to technical deep dives, the event aims to set clear priorities for future global digital health collaboration.

  • The Africa Health Business (AHB) Symposium will also take place during this week, from 16 to 17 July 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria. This symposium will gather over 200 health sector leaders from more than 30 African countries to discuss innovative strategies for accelerating Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Africa. Key topics will include government healthcare funding, private sector engagement, regulatory harmonisation, and the use of digital health solutions to enhance service coverage, diagnostics, and quality care.

  • On 24 and 25 July 2025, Algeria will host the International Conference on Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (ICOPB-25) in Biskra. This event will bring together scientists, academics, and industry experts to discuss breakthroughs, challenges, and future directions in pharmaceutical biotechnology. Attendees will present their research, network with peers, and contribute to the global dialogue on innovation and collaboration in health-focused research and development.

  • The World Health Expo (WHX) will be held in Nairobi from 6 to 8 October 2025. This event is expected to attract over 8,000 healthcare professionals to the Kenyatta International Convention Centre. Under the patronage of Kenya’s Ministry of Health, the expo will highlight innovation, sustainability, and strategic partnerships, positioning Kenya as a regional medical hub and advancing Universal Health Coverage through trade, investment, and knowledge exchange.
