The Scientific Conference on Medical Product Regulation in Africa (SCoMRA) 2025 is coming up from 11th November in Kenya. It is the biggest conference on medical products regulation in the continent. Attending the conference enables health practitioners and businesses to be informed on the latest developments in health products certification.

  • The conference’s theme this year is Regulatory Harmonisation: “Unlocking Africa’s Potential in Health Product Manufacturing and Trade. This suggests a strong emphasis on local manufacturing, which is a climate-smart strategy for the healthcare industry.

  • One of the critical factors for sustainable manufacturing in Africa, according to Africa CDC, is ensuring that African manufacturers have access to efficient and harmonised regulatory pathways. Other events in this tracker include the Second AI in Health Africa Conference and more.

  • Hosted by the Government of Kenya, the event will take place at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa. The conference is co-organised by the African Union Development Agency and the World Health Organization. It serves as the leading platform for dialogue on policy harmonisation and the role of effective regulation in enabling Africa’s pharmaceutical manufacturing ambitions.

  • Among the key presentations will be one by Nenye Njoku, Project Manager at the U.S. Pharmacopeia, titled “Early lessons in environmental sustainability and practical, scalable solutions for a greener Africa.” Njoku will share practical insights on integrating sustainability into pharmaceutical manufacturing, including embedding energy efficiency into quality management systems and how local manufacturing can improve efficiency and resilience.

  • The conference builds momentum toward the operationalisation of the African Medicines Agency. It will provide an opportunity to review progress under the African Medicines Regulatory Harmonisation initiative and set priorities for the coming years. The outcomes are expected to shape how African countries align regulation and industrial policy to accelerate local health product manufacturing.

  • The Second AI in Health Africa Conference, set for 6 to 7 November 2025 in Uganda, will bring together health experts and partners to explore AI-driven solutions for Africa’s health systems. Centred on the theme “Setting AI for Sustainable and Inclusive Health Systems in Africa,” the event promotes localisation of health technology and context-aware innovation to strengthen healthcare delivery in Africa.

  • Key discussions will cover AI policy and ethics including capacity building for health practitioners and integration of AI with indigenous knowledge systems. Hosted by the Health AI for All Network, Makerere University AI Health Lab and the Infectious Disease Institute, the conference aims to shape equitable digital transformation in the continent.
